Her brother vanished in a mysterious, foreign land, and the only man who can help her is even more dangerous...
C.J. Perkins is trying to find her brother who went missing while on a Peace Corps assignment in Asia. All she knows is that the disappearance has something to do with a “White Dragon.” Darius Kane, adventurer and bounty hunter, seems to be her only hope, and she practically shanghais him into helping her.
In this romantic adventure, C.J. and Darius follow a trail that takes them through the narrow streets of Hong Kong, the backrooms of San Francisco's Chinatown, and the wild jungles of Borneo as they pursue both her brother and the White Dragon. The closer C.J. gets to them, the more danger she finds herself in—and it's not just danger of losing her life, but also of losing her heart

This book reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Romancing the Stone. It has just the right balance of love and adventure. Sparks fly when a headstrong, mid-western artist named C.J. meets the mysterious and handsome Darius Kane. C.J. is smart, full of common sense, yet somewhat naive. She's also honest and plain-spoken, so she assumes everybody else is the same way, but a lesson to the contrary waits ahead. When her brother is reported missing overseas, she begins a quest to find him, which puts her on the trail of the elusive and priceless White Dragon. It's one adventure after another. Out of her element, C.J. is never sure who to trust. Forced to deal with shady underworld types, her honest and loyal nature threaten to be her undoing. Good thing worldly Darius is there to help her navigate the streets and jungles of Asia, but is it out of genuine concern, or is he just using her to get the White Dragon for himself?
The prose are clean and flow really well. This is clearly the work of an experienced author. Some romances are trashy, this one is classy, and a wonderful roller coaster of a ride.

Dangerous Journey edition by Joanne Pence Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Great read ty so very much!!! I am not much of a story teller but can read something great!!! I hope too read more beautiful books Joanne Pence!!!
This book was fast-paced, with plenty of action. It had many adventures for the characters and provided the reader a thrilling ride. I enjoyed the settings and the ending was as fun as the beginning and middle!
A perfect complete story by a perfect author. There is a feeling of knowing the characters when you have finished the book. They seem like friends and you are not ready for the story to finish. What happens tomorrow?
Set in late 70s Far East with stolen treasure and intrigue, this is a rather formulaic story from the Carter era and tensions between China, British Hong Kong and the US and smuggling. OK for a short read at the airport. I did find the less blatant sexual attitudes of just 30 years ago a bit nostalgic.
This was an entertaining adventure with more than the normal twists and turns. I could not put it down until I finished.
In Joanne Pence's novel, Dangerous Journey, C.J. Perkins, a twenty-eight year old Midwestern gal living in Los Angeles, who doesn't think she is particularly attractive, plunges headfirst into the disappearance of her brother, Alan, a Peace Core volunteer in Sarawak, a province of Malaysia. Her quest lands her in Hong Kong, a British Crown Colony in 1978, where she shanghaies a handsome adventurer with a tragic past to help her, one Darius Kane. C.J. learns her brother's whereabouts are tied up with the theft of the White Dragon, a small statue carved during the Chinese T'ang dynasty, a white jade masterpiece presented as a gift to the emperor of China and on loan to Western museums when stolen. C.J. and Darius, who C.J. is more than a little attracted to, bounce from Hong Kong to San Francisco, to Singapore, to Sarawak, and back again. On this dangerous journey they learn about each other's pasts and share intimate moments as they uncover clues to Alan's dilemma and to the mystery of the White Dragon. This whirlwind of a novel locks the reader in, not only to the USA-Asian adventure ride, but also to a heart-felt man-woman relationship startling in its complexity
The story was formulaic romance/adventure story, with some interesting characters and some that were almost stereotypical. All together this made it a quick read that was refreshingly non-blatantly sexual.
That said, I did have two problems with this book. First, it needed a good editing. Time after time a word was missing the "ed," "d" or "s." For example, walk instead of walked, paint instead of painted or year for years.
Second, I liked the way Darius kept trying to guess what the C.J. stood for. That was one of the best things about the book. But I hated what the C. stood for!!
