I was really getting into this story, because growing up around drug addicts and alcholics, I could relate to the hopelessness these two were going through. And just when things were taking a turn to the good, the story ends in a BLASTED CLIFFHANGER!!! I will NOT buy the next book just to find out things work out. At this point..... Disappointing. Lots of loose plot lines that don't get fully developed, characters that should be fleshed out but aren't. I feel like this was more of a first draft than an actual book. The only thing that actually happened was the H/h managed to "get together." Nothing really resolved as to their future plans, or either one's family dramas.
I found the premise interesting, but upon reading reviews, some scathing, I wasn't expecting much. Happily surprised by its potential! I must have read an updated version?
Emerson and Juliet have synched due to attraction, but when they discover similar painful backgrounds, their connection deepens. It's mad love, to be sure, but I fell for it.
They met roadblocks, but endured together. I did feel as if we learned more about Juliet than Emerson's load at home. He designated himself the man of the house, which was chaotic at best, but we didn't delve into the fallout regarding his mother's decision. I wanted to hear about his uncertainty, his sister's reaction, etc...
I enjoyed the short story and am enticed to read on.
I have wanted to read Unbroken for a while and when I saw Untouched was a prequel novella; I decided to give it a quick read before starting Unbroken. I am glad I did because it gave a little insight into how the whirlwind romance between Emerson and Juliet started all those years ago.
Untouched did a lot of character building to give some insight into who Emerson and Juliet really were and what made them fall in love with each other. They each have turmoil in their family lives and demons in their past and those are highlighted here to give us an idea of why they need each other so much and why they will always need each other.

Emerson seems to always be pushing Juliet away and Juliet isn't one to give in so easy. She knows how he makes her feel and once touch or look from Emerson brings her un-done. He has never found a girl that makes him feel like she does and as much as he thinks he is no good for her, three little words is all it takes for him forget everything and drag her back into his arms.
I felt like they fell "in love" a little too fast. I understand the way they make each other feel and the attraction that neither can deny but it seemed so fast to say "I Love You" to each other. In the end, we know that summer doesn't end in happily ever after but will they get their HEA in Unbroken?
Melody Grace brings characters to live on the paper or kindle from which you read them. This Beachwood Bay series takes you on the journeys of several people that maybe don't fit the normal couple status. Or for that matter are just too stubborn to realize what they really have. And with this book you have a little bit of both. Emerson is a strong stubborn man who has had some things happen to him that have left him and his heart guarded. And then you have Juliet (Jules) she has a family that hides true feelings and she wants nothing more than to get out of that and have a life of her own. Then she meets Emerson. He is tall, dark and handsome built to the hilt and makes her second guess her entire life looking forward. But can Emerson let her in or is he too ashamed of his past to even consider this as an option. And well what about Jules, she really doesn't know how to handle a guy much less someone as sure of themselves as Emerson seems to be. But both are hiding something from each other. Can they get past their issues and their families to try and see whats right in front of them? Well you will have to read it to find that out. But I can tell you that I picked up this series and haven't been able to put it down since. Love it and can't wait for more.
Untouched was a pretty good short story. Emerson and Juliet meet one day when Juliet is heading to Emerson's town for the summer. She is not exactly thrilled with the idea of spending the summer there with her family. She is counting down the days until she can escape to California for school. Her dad is an alcoholic, her mom in denial, and her sister a nightmare.
No one ever expects anything good from Emerson. He drinks and sleeps with random girls, waking up not knowing where he is and feeling even worse about himself. Until he meets Juliet one day when he is driving back into town. They both just feel there is something between them right from the beginning. It was really sweet. Both think the other can't possibly like them, they have too many issues, but they just work. I enjoyed this read even though it was a quick one. Emerson and Juliet are great together. She is there for him when he needs it, even if he tries to push her away, and he for her. They both have issues at home and are both trying to figure out how to deal with them. Though they haven't known each other for very long they both are head over heels for the other. That doesn't make it easy, they have bumps in the road, but hopefully they can work it all out forever.
I didn't realize when I started it that I had read the next chapter of their story already (at the time I didn't know there was this book) and I hadn't enjoyed that book. Though now that I have the backstory I am looking forward to re-reading it to see what happens as I don't really remember. Emerson and Juliet are just so great together I need to see what happens next.

I wish I had read the reviews before getting this book, because I wouldn't have wasted my time if I had realized it was not a book but an introduction to a series. It's a book without a middle or an end, I guess the author assumes you will be so intrigued that you will buy the next book. Not only will I not buy the next book, I probably won't read any other books by her. Very disappointed.
